DIY Hand Scrub & Hand Mask
Delicious! A DIY hand scrub and hand mask. For silky soft hands. The scrub removes dead skin cells. The mask nourishes & cares. Tip for a (together) spa day at home, on holiday or with friends' weekend.
For the scrub and mask I have chosen ingredients that you probably have at home, so you can get started straight away. Sugar, honey, oil and possibly coffee powder.
Don't feel like making a mask yourself? At the bottom of the blog you will find a few tips for ready-made masks and a scrub to use.
This pampering for your hands is not an unnecessary luxury in autumn and winter.
Enough talking 😉. To work!
Hand scrub
Ingredients (for 1 person)
- 1.5 tablespoon of coconut blossom, palm, cane or granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon coconut, olive, jojoba or nut oil
- For a coffee scrub: 2 tablespoons of coffee powder
Preparation & use
- Mix all ingredients into a paste
- Apply into your palms
- Make gentle 'hand washing' movements with the scrub (do not scrub too hard, otherwise you will damage the protective layer of your skin)
- Rinse your hands with lukewarm water. Or gently remove the scrub with a damp, lukewarm washcloth. If some oil remains on your hands, that's fine! That takes care of your hands.
Hand mask
Ingredients (for 1 person)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon (liquid) coconut oil or olive oil
- 1 teaspoon honey (for a super luxurious mask - Manuka honey)
- 2 washable cotton panty gloves or if you don't have them, plastic or household gloves. Or plastic food bags or cling film (less environmentally friendly)
Preparation & use
- Mix all ingredients into a thick paste
- Apply a (tea) spoonful of mask to one hand (you can apply this with the rounded side of the spoon or with a brush if you have one) and massage it gently.
- Put on a glove (or wrap foil around your hands - so that you can still move it to provide your other hand with a mask)
- Repeat the application for your other hand
- Leave on for 10-20 minutes (or if you want a care boost - overnight)
- Rinse the remaining mask with lukewarm water or wipe with a damp lukewarm washcloth. Feel your hands! They should be super soft!

- For example, a Vitalizing or Hydrating mask.
- I'm a fan of the Shankara Moisturizing Mask with Honey and Gotu Kula.
- A clay mask is also perfect to use. Mix clay powder with a teaspoon of olive or coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of honey to make a mask for your hands.
- Dr Hauschka has handy clay mask bags for 1 or 2 uses.
- You can also use the Enzyme Peeling from Abloom as a peeling. It applies like a mask. Natural enzymes from papaya and pineapple remove your dead skin cells.
